Epoch Zero is a free site for learning machine learning. You can use all of it without an account. This page lists everything the site stores about you, why, and how to have it removed.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
We store your email address, the page you subscribed from, the date, and a random token for the one-click unsubscribe link in every email. We use your address only to send the newsletter. Unsubscribing marks you as unsubscribed straight away.
If you create an account
- Your username, email address, display name and anything you add to your profile (bio, avatar link, learning level).
- Your password, stored only as a salted PBKDF2 hash. We cannot read it.
- Your progress: chapters completed, quiz scores and bookmarked architectures, so they follow you between devices.
- A sign-in token, which expires after 30 days.
In your browser
The site keeps a few things in your browser's storage, all starting with mlag.: your theme and filters,
chapter progress, starred architectures, whether you have subscribed, an anonymous id used for bookmarks and quiz
results, and your sign-in token if you have an account. The current tutor conversation is kept only until you close
the tab. There are no advertising or
analytics cookies, and no third-party scripts.
The AI tutor
What you type to the tutor, together with the name of the chapter or architecture you have open, is sent to the language model that answers it. That is either a model running on our own hardware or Anthropic's Claude API. The site does not save tutor conversations. Don't put personal information in your questions.
Server logs and backups
Like any web server, ours records each request's IP address, time and page. We use these logs only to keep the site running and to limit abuse (for example, too many sign-in attempts). The database is backed up daily. Backups are kept on our server for 14 days, and an encrypted copy is kept for 90 days with Cloudflare R2 so the site can be restored if the server is lost. Cloudflare cannot read these copies; only we hold the key.
Who else sees it
We don't sell or share your data. The site is hosted on a server we rent from Hostinger, and encrypted backups are stored with Cloudflare R2. Your data is not used for advertising.
Deleting your data
Email info@epochzero.org from the address you signed up with and we will delete your account, progress and newsletter subscription. Deleted data disappears from backups within 90 days.
